Teaser Tuesday 1/22/2013: “Gust Front”
Posted by jamesviscosi on January 22, 2013
At the moment, I’m about 25% of the way through Gust Front by John Ringo, in which the alien Posleen are poised to invade the earth. At least, that’s what they keep saying; there’s been no actual sign of the Posleen yet. But I’m sure they will be arriving any time now! *checks watch*
Anyway, while we’re waiting for the planet to be destroyed, one of the survivors of the first battle with the Posleen on the world of Diess is trying to get some R&R with his family in the Florida Keys. Unfortunately, nearly everything there is closed, since most of of the population has either been evacuated or impressed into the military, leaving a small fishing camp as the only option for lodging.
The cabin was small, old, and smelled heavily of the mildew that was as common in the Keys as mosquitoes. A chameleon had broken off its pursuit of a large antlike insect as Mike opened the door.
Mmm, sounds lovely. Maybe it’s one of those Jerusalem crickets that periodically startle us here. Anyway, have fun with that, Mike!
And of course here’s this week’s teaser from The War of the Ravels!
Some slight signs of aging had already set in before they reached Abacar, but it had become much more pronounced now, after the adventure with the portal. He knew that she believed herself immune to the effects of the Illata, that because she could touch it she could use it with impunity, but she was wrong; she was starting down a path that began in a summer meadow and ended in the withered glades of winter, where Yexandor had spent the last decades of his life.
